John Hiatt Picture
John Hiatt's sales have never quite matched his reputation. Hiatt's songs were covered successfully by everyone from Bonnie Raitt, Ronnie Milsap, and Dr. Feelgood to Iggy Pop, Three Dog Night, and the Neville Brothers, yet it took him 13 years to reach the charts himself. Of course, it nearly took him that long to find his own style. Hiatt began his solo career in 1974, and over the next decade he ran through a number of different styles from rock & roll to new wave pop before he finally settled on a rootsy fusion of rock & roll, country, blues, and folk with his 1987 album Bring the Family.

It’ll Come To You Lyrics

John Hiatt

That girl you were seein back in 72
Somethin bout a hotel room and bath water in your shoes
Were you into your catholic thing then or some other stew
Were you both holed up in that hotel room practicing voodoo
Chorus:
Itll come to you
Dont look back, itll come to you
In the middle of the night, with you covers pulled up tight
Itll come to you
And that business partner you took for every red cent
You cant even remember where all of that money went
Some on liquor and women, maybe a little rent
But as far as paying it back, buddy, you aint made a dent
Chorus
Yes theyll all be standin round you in your sleep
Askin for a promise you couldnt keep
cause back when you were hollow inside
You were tryin to puff yourself up with your own foolish pride
Now youre happily married with a wife and kids of youre own
But sometimes in the closet at night you can hear them rattlin bones
Takin bets on your future and your current postal zone
Its a spooky equation, but check out yourself, jack, youre the great unknown
Chorus
