John Hiatt Picture
John Hiatt's sales have never quite matched his reputation. Hiatt's songs were covered successfully by everyone from Bonnie Raitt, Ronnie Milsap, and Dr. Feelgood to Iggy Pop, Three Dog Night, and the Neville Brothers, yet it took him 13 years to reach the charts himself. Of course, it nearly took him that long to find his own style. Hiatt began his solo career in 1974, and over the next decade he ran through a number of different styles from rock & roll to new wave pop before he finally settled on a rootsy fusion of rock & roll, country, blues, and folk with his 1987 album Bring the Family.

Full Moon Lyrics

John Hiatt

Theres a wind inside my soul,
Burnin secrets in the cold.
My spirit rages.
And the faces in my field,
Only flesh made out of him.
My body ages.
Houses made of stone and ice.
Chimneys smokey paradise.
If you gotta leave, you gotta leave alone.
Chorus:
Oh lord, theres a full moon, oh lord, in my eyes.
Theres a full moon; insane vision in disguise.
Theres a full moon.
Oh lord, theres a full moon out tonight.
Old men close their eyes and weep.
Young men pray that theyre asleep,
Inside the madness.
Young girls dance between the sparks,
And old women die in parks,
From too much sadness.
And we dig a million holes.
And were goin down for gold.
If you gotta leave, you gotta leave alone.
Chorus
