John Hiatt Picture
John Hiatt's sales have never quite matched his reputation. Hiatt's songs were covered successfully by everyone from Bonnie Raitt, Ronnie Milsap, and Dr. Feelgood to Iggy Pop, Three Dog Night, and the Neville Brothers, yet it took him 13 years to reach the charts himself. Of course, it nearly took him that long to find his own style. Hiatt began his solo career in 1974, and over the next decade he ran through a number of different styles from rock & roll to new wave pop before he finally settled on a rootsy fusion of rock & roll, country, blues, and folk with his 1987 album Bring the Family.

Face The Nation Lyrics

John Hiatt

My mind is finally clearing
What is this sound Im hearing?
Chainsaws on bone and gristle
Carving out a new epistle
Ive got my pencil sharpened
I will not be disheartened
I wont be disenchanted
Even though the news is slanted
Face the nation
Face the nation
Face the nation
I see you shaping nooses
Sixty minutes of excuses
Airwaves and wire service
Trying to make me nervous
Your problems overrated
Your headaches are inflated
No talk now, only chatter
Little chipmunk, whats the matter?
Face the nation
Face the nation
Face the nation
Im entertaining notions
Propelled by raw emotions
Put down your time and newsweek
Listen to me when I speak
There is no pulse to finger
No waves of grain to bring her
No purple mountain story
And no epoch of glory
Face the nation
Face the nation
Face the nation
