John Hiatt Picture
John Hiatt's sales have never quite matched his reputation. Hiatt's songs were covered successfully by everyone from Bonnie Raitt, Ronnie Milsap, and Dr. Feelgood to Iggy Pop, Three Dog Night, and the Neville Brothers, yet it took him 13 years to reach the charts himself. Of course, it nearly took him that long to find his own style. Hiatt began his solo career in 1974, and over the next decade he ran through a number of different styles from rock & roll to new wave pop before he finally settled on a rootsy fusion of rock & roll, country, blues, and folk with his 1987 album Bring the Family.

Down Home Lyrics

John Hiatt

The driver says its gettin late
But I know that hes lyin
I got me no important dates
My, how time is flyin
Chorus:
Well I keep on, keep on fallin
I keep on, keep on fallin
I keep on, keep on fallin
Fallin down home
Oh, la, la, la, la, oh, la, la, la, la
A pretty lady smiled at me
Love that fancy dancin
Get back home where we can see
Do up some romancin
Chorus
You know Im just hangin around
Got to be there, got to be there
When it all comes down,
Comes down down
Comes down home
Well now someone put firewater in my drink
Liked to make me drop it
Well now I know that this aint no time to think
But you cant hardly stop it
Chorus
Here I go, here I go
Oh la, la, la, la, la, la, la...
