John Hiatt Picture
John Hiatt's sales have never quite matched his reputation. Hiatt's songs were covered successfully by everyone from Bonnie Raitt, Ronnie Milsap, and Dr. Feelgood to Iggy Pop, Three Dog Night, and the Neville Brothers, yet it took him 13 years to reach the charts himself. Of course, it nearly took him that long to find his own style. Hiatt began his solo career in 1974, and over the next decade he ran through a number of different styles from rock & roll to new wave pop before he finally settled on a rootsy fusion of rock & roll, country, blues, and folk with his 1987 album Bring the Family.

Copy Party Lyrics

John Hiatt

Down on the beat
Theyre lining up everyone
Whos got a mind on a bullet and a mouth like a gun
Boys and girls
Stripped to their innocence
We run some real weak links in this long chain of events
Cop party and you better not go
Spend the rest of your life in this tv show
Cop party and you better run
Because theyre not gonna stop until theyve had their fun
Until justice is done
Theyre checking out
Everybody with a fine-toothed comb
So leave your keys in the car and the wisecracking at home
Spread em, boy
And dont you turn around
Were gonna make you real sorry that you ever come into this town
Cop party and you better not go
Spend the rest of your life in this tv show
Cop party and you better run
Because theyre not gonna stop until theyve had their fun
Summer is here, were out in the street
The verdict is already in
Turn up the music, here comes the heat
Cop party and you better not go
Youll spend the rest of your life in this tv show
Cop party and you better run
Because theyre not gonna stop until theyve had their fun
Cop party and you better not go
